Coloured Cups with Lids (Set of 6)
A dear and delightful wooden set of six little coloured cups, each with a snugly fitting lid.
The coloured cups offer longevity and value for money as they can potentially be repurposed for a broad range of uses. There are plenty of levels of challenge for a child who is working on sorting with colours. A simple sequence of progressive challenge could be:
- Matching the lids to the containers by colour.
- Sorting one large object to each container by colour using the hands.
- Sorting one large object to each container by colour using a simple tool such as tongs.
- Sorting multiple smaller objects to each container using a simple tool such as tongs.
- Sorting multiple smaller objects to each container using more advanced tools, such as tweezers or a spoon.
A simple sorting exercise - placing three beads into the primary coloured containers.
A more advanced sorting exercise - using tweezers to transfer coloured popsticks into each of the six containers.
After a child has moved on from the sorting experience the coloured cups still remain useful. They could be containers for small keepsakes or treasures. They could also be used for display or practical storage, such as acting as containers for coloured pencils on an art shelf.
The brand behind these lovely containers - GRAPAT - aims to inspire children to engage in open-ended and self-directed exploration. This certainly seems to be the case for the Coloured Cups with Lids - in my own classroom they quickly transformed into a tall tower in the hands of one creative child, while another came up with the idea of using the popsticks they were sorting to create bridges! There are no doubt many more imaginative and innovative uses for these cups that I can only dream of but children will no doubt develop!

All GRAPAT materials are specially designed to inspire open-ended, creative and self-directed play (how perfectly harmonious with our Montessori principles!) GRAPAT materials are lovingly hand-crafted through traditional, old-fashioned methods. They are crafted with thick but soft raw materials, ensuring quality and longevity, and are coloured with natural dyes, coloured waxes or oils, all of which allow the natural grain and warmth of the wood to remain visible. The care, craftsmanship and creativity that goes into every GRAPAT treasure makes these materials truly unique and deeply appealing.
