Janod Body Magnet

$69.95

A realistic representation of the inner workings of the human body, in a handy magnetic chart!

The set contains 72 magnetic pieces showcasing four of the systems of human anatomy: the skeleton, the muscles, the organs and the externally visible 'body'. Each of the systems is represented by 18 of the magnetic pieces.

A control card is provided for each of the anatomical systems providing not only a visual guide to the placement of the pieces but also the correct vocabulary for each bone, muscle, organ or body part. A unique and interesting feature of this set is that there are multiple versions of each card providing the same information in nine different languages, including English, French, Chinese, Spanish, Italian and more. This is a fascinating way of introducing a different cultural element into the experience and also demonstrates inclusivity for cultural diversity in the classroom.

To scaffold the experience for younger children the task can be presented with only one set of pieces at a time (for instance just the skeleton, or only the organs). To extend the challenge for older children all pieces can be presented together so that the child can 'layer' them to create a more holistic representation of human anatomy.

The Body Magnet game can be attempted by an individual or completed as a collaboration between partners or a group of peers.

The magnetic board measures approximately 26cm wide by 42cm tall, making it a visually striking piece that is still mobile enough to be easily placed in a variety of locations in the classroom or at home. It can either be hung up on a wall using the string at the top or can be placed flat on a table.

The Body Magnet game promotes gender equality by providing both a male and female face to complete the 'body' layer. This tends to prompt interesting discussions between children about the variations between male and female anatomy, and these types of conversation can provide an interesting foundation for their personal considerations of gender identity.

The 'Body Magnet' activity is from the highly regarded Janod range, which is well-known for its innovative and developmentally appropriate educational toys. It is designed in France and is the recipient of the 'Best Toy Award' Gold Seal from the Openheim Toy Portfolio.

The manufacturer's recommended age range for this material is 7 to 12 years. Please note that some of the small parts may pose a choking hazard, particularly for children under 3, and they are magnetic so can be harmful if swallowed.
For legal reasons we never contradict these recommended ages but I can anecdotally share that I have personally used this material with children aged 3, 4 and 5 who found it engaging and informative and required minimal scaffolding from an adult.
