KiddiKutter Knife

The KiddiKutter – the knife that cuts food, not fingers – designed to avoid the dangers of kitchen knives, but still learn how to use one. Easy  to use and safe too! There are no sharp edges and it has a rounded tip, with a non-toxic stainless steel blade that prevents rust and corrosion.

The most important thing about the KiddiKutter is that it actually works! I have worked in Montessori classrooms for many years and until I discovered the KiddiKutter I was always sceptical of 'safety knives'. In my experience I found that most of these would either cut nothing at all, or still cut skin. I was genuinely amazed when we received our first KiddiKutter because it cut through every single food item that I tested but didn't cut my skin (no matter how hard I tried!).

In the classroom our children use the knives for cutting everything - from the soft flesh of cucumbers to hard carrots and everything in between!

Please note - due to the 'saw-like' teeth of the knife, which replace the traditionally sharp blade of a regular knife, the action required to cut firmer foods is more of a sawing motion than a slicing one. We advise that you provide a presentation of this strategy to the child in order to help scaffold them for success with using the knives effectively. This sawing does mean that the pieces of food are not as 'cleanly' sliced (you do not get the pristine, smooth sides that you would when slicing with a sharp knife) but the Montessori method always focuses on the 'process not the product', so the slight imperfections in the slices may seem minor compared to the fact that the knives safely facilitate independent food preparation.

The range of colours allows you to purchase several and 'colour code' them for hygiene purposes. For instance, green might be for fruit, red for vegetables, pink for meats and so forth.

The colour range also provides a practical option to identify ownership in homes or classrooms. At home, for instance, each sibling in the family might have his/her own colour.

Please note that the product photo illustrates the colour range but this listing is for one knife only, not a set of 5. Please choose your colour preference from the drop-down menu.
